Sony has finally decided to enter the netbook market. Here is a quick review of the Sony VAIO Netbook, a highly anticipated model by all Sony fans.

The Sony VAIO 10.1-inch netbook (VPC-W111XX/T) was highly anticipated by netbook fans all over the world. After getting a chance to use it for a week, I can't help but to think if Sony was actually serious in entering the netbook market.
To be fair, the Sony VAIO 10.1-inch netbook does have all the best specs that a netbook can have, including a 1.66Ghz processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 802.11b/g/n wi fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. It has 2 USB ports and is powered by a 3-cell battery that can last up to 2.5 hours on a single charge. Most netbook models have 6-cell batteries where some of them can even last up to 10 hours on one charge. It is hard to imagine why Sony would want to settle with a 3-cell battery.
Currently, this netbook is priced at about $499 per unit. That is about $140 more expensive than the average netbook with almost identical specs. Sony and Apple are considered as premier brands where their range of products are known to be a little more expensive than usual. Apple products do have lots of specs and features not found in other brands, justifying its premium price tags. It is hard to say the same for Sony products though, especially for this netbook model.
On the bright side the Sony VAIO 10.1-inch netbook does have a more refined finish and design. The design does look good and overall, quite comfortable to use. Besides the novelty of having a Sony product, I could barely find any other reasons for you to get one of these netbooks, especially with more viable (and cheaper) alternatives from brands like Asus and Toshiba.
